Atlantic City Blackjack Basics

In Atlantic City Blackjack 8 decks of standard playing cards are used and are dealt from a shoe. Every player must make a bet and thereafter will receive 2 cards, one face up, one face down. The dealer also receives the same hand, and his face down card is known as the hole card. All numbered cards are worth their face value, whilst Jack, Queen and King are worth 10 points each. Ace is worth 1 or 11, depending on which value benefits your hand best.

The objective of the game is to beat the dealer to a hand of 21 or as close to as possible, without going over (bust). The best hand you can possibly have is Black Jack, a hand that equals exactly 21 and comprises of an Ace and any face card. This is a natural hand and the ultimate way to win. At the start of every game the dealer will check if they have Black Jack, and in the Atlantic City version of the game, if they suspect they do, they’ll ask the player if they want to buy insurance. This costs half your initial bet amount and pays out 2-1 if the dealer has a natural hand. If neither the player nor the dealer has a natural hand, the game continues as normal.
