Online Roulette

The classic Casino game of Roulette embodies almost everything you picture when you think of Las Vegas or Monte Carlo – the colours, the sounds, the suspense – so an authentic online version of Roulette has to be able to match up to its land-based counterpart. To experience all of the thrills and excitement of this classic game from the comfort of your own home, visit one of our best Canadian Online Casinos and prepare to be blown away.

With an average payout ratio of between 95% and 98%, online Roulette has some of the fairest odds in Casino gaming. Whether you’re new to the famous red and black wheel or an old hand, Roulette has plenty to offer players.

Although there are several betting options to choose from at the Roulette table, including number, third or colour, optimum play requires little in the way of tactics. Without the need to spend hours watching, counting and concentrating until you’re blue in the face, Roulette is a game at which you can just sit back and enjoy.

The Basics of Roulette

Online Roulette has the same basic structure and rules as offline roulette does. The action is recreated using great animations and Random Number Generation, or you can play Live Dealer casino games that beam real-time action directly to your device.

Roulette means Little Wheel in French, and the game is indeed based on spinning a small wheel. The wheel is separated into numbered panels, alternately coloured in red and black and going from 1 to 36. There’s also a green panel labelled 0 (and another 00 panel in the American version of the game).

As the wheel is spinning a ball is dropped onto it, and you need to bet on which panel you think the ball will be in when the wheel comes to rest. There are several wagers that you can place here, and as they get more specific they also get more rewarding. You can even try to predict the specific number of the panel that the ball will land in.

The betting is where your strategic decisions in Roulette come into play. The game is based completely on chance, so there’s not much you can do about the spinning wheel and the dropping ball. What you can do is apply basic understanding of how probability works to the game, and this is most commonly done with the Martingale Betting Strategy for Roulette.

With the Martingale strategy, you need to keep doubling your bet when you lose, and then halve it when you win. This can seem a little strange at first, but once you’ve applied it for yourself the logic will become clear.

If you bet 5 coins on a Roulette game and you lose, according to the Martingale method you’ll bet 10 coins on the next game. If you lose again you’ll bet 20 and then if you lose again you’ll bet 40. At this point you’ll have 75 coins on the table, including the original 5 that you put down. If you win this bet, you’ll recoup all your losses and make an extra 5 coins. The trick is to stick to betting exponentially and then wait it out until you win, something that is much easier online than offline.

Types of Roulette

  • American Roulette can be found in any online casino and while it is considered the least popular of all the roulette variations, its use remains widespread. American roulette is a classic, Vegas styled game that gives the house a slightly higher edge when compared to its counterparts. The same can be said about the online casino version of the game. The key component that sets American Roulette apart from European and French Roulette is its inclusion of a double zero slot. The inclusion of this number on the wheel raises the house edge to 5.26%. The payouts however remain potentially huge.

  • European Roulette, like its American cousin, can be found in all online casinos and is definitely the more popular of the two. European Roulette lets you bet on slots 1 – 36, and because it’s without the additional double zero slot, the house edge sits at 2.7% as opposed American Roulette, which sits at 5.26%. This slight change in the house edge, while quite subtle, means that your odds of winning at European Roulette are ever so slightly better.

  • French Roulette is the purist form of the game as it stems back to the original one that emerged in the 18th century. Most online casinos stock French Roulette, and we say most because it can sometimes prove to be a bit rare online. French Roulette is quite similar to European Roulette as it too has only a single zero slot on its wheel. There are however some variations. The biggest variation is the ‘La Partage’ rule which allows you to retain half your bet if the ball lands on zero. French Roulette also has the ‘En Prison’ rule which allows you to win back your bet if you wagered on odds or evens and the ball landed on zero. If this situation occurs, a marker will be placed on top of your bet and when the next spin comes around, should you win, you will get that cash back. If luck is not on your side you will forfeit your loss to the house.
