GCGC Shuts Another Casino

It has been a tough year for the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation as the company has announced that it is set to close down yet another one of its gaming properties. On 27 April 2021, the gaming operator announced that Casino Nova Scotia Sydney would be shutting down with immediate effect.
This closure comes shortly after the company had to shut down another property in the province. The corporation oversees 26 casinos within the country and has properties in Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Following an order from Nova Scotia’s provincial government, the corporation is required to close down its other casino hotspot in the province. The stay-at-home order suspends the operations of many local businesses, including in-person gambling, making online gambling the only alternative. The government has taken this step in an attempt to lessen the severity of the global health crisis.
A spokesperson for the casino corporation said that the Nova Scotia entities have been operating in a safe environment. However, the company recognises that these new restrictions are necessary. It will monitor the situation, as well as the vaccination process, and patiently await a possible reopening in the near future.
Out of 26 properties, just Casino New Brunswick remains open and is welcoming guests. All of the casino properties in British Columbia have been suspended from operating since March 2020. Recently, the corporation took the decision to close down all of its Ontario properties too.
Just a few days prior to the April 27 announcement, the corporation had to close its other casino property in the province for an unknown period of time. On 22 April, Casino Nova Scotia Halifax also had to suspend its services and shut down. It wasn’t too long ago – only in January – that both of the province’s gambling halls were allowed to reopen.
Just One Remains
At present, the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation has just one operational facility remaining out of 26 in the country. Casino New Brunswick was able to safely reopens its doors on 12 February 2021 and has continued to welcome guests ever since.
As is the case with all other indoor entertainment venues, the casino is operating under strict health and safety measures. All visitors are required to wear a face mask and social distancing is mandatory. The casino also has a limit of no more than 50 players at a time in order to ensure that social distancing measures are properly maintained.
