There’s a new horse in the Evolution Gaming Group stable, and this time it’s none other than Big Time Gaming, which the live casino provider acquired for US$534 million. The acquisition of the developer was announced last month.
Not content with being the world’s leading provider of live dealer casino services, the company began its own evolution last year with the acquisition of NetEnt and Red Tiger Gaming. The move sent ripples through the industry, as both brands have significant portfolios that include hugely popular games.
The latest move by the company confirms that it wants nothing less than to dominate the world of online gaming. It certainly made a good choice in the studio, which reported revenue of €33m and EBITDA of €29m for 2020. The $534m will be paid partly in cash and partly in shares in the live casino brand, and the acquisition is expected to be completed before July. The deal’s completion depends on the clearance of regulatory approvals.
Evolution Strengthens Position
Jens von Bahr, chairman at Evolution, said that the company confirmed its strategic position with the inclusion of Big Time Gaming among its slot brands. He explained that the developer’s innovative approach and its expertise in fashioning unique gaming elements harmonised with live casino company’s own ethos. Bahr added that he looked forward to working with the brand.
CEO of Big Time Gaming, Nik Robinson agreed that the brands’ innovative approach made them an excellent match. He also said that players will see exciting and entertaining things coming their way in future.
A Look At Big Time Gaming
When Big Time Gaming was founded in 2011, it was done with a focus on creating online slots rather than live dealer casino offerings. Headquartered in Surry Hills, New South Wales, Australia, the studio became famous with slots such as Extra Chilli and Bonanza, as well as officially licensed titles based on board games and game shows.
One of the secrets of the studio’s success was the Megaways mechanism, which it first included in the 2015 slot, Dragon Born. The following year saw the mechanism properly recognised when the studio launched the popular Bonanza.
Compared to many other video slots of the time, which offered 10s of paylines, the first proper Megaways game offered up to 117,649 ways to win. The mechanism was so powerful that other providers took notice of it. Rather than trying to create a feature similar to it, they obtained the studio’s permission to use it. The mechanism now features in more than 200 titles from various studios.
