New iGaming Ontario Online Gambling Canada Body

The Canadian province of Ontario has formally announced the inclusion of a brand-new division. This division, aptly named iGaming Ontario, was unveiled by the province’s government on Tuesday. It is a new subsidiary of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Also known as AGCO, this online Gambling Canada commission oversees all of the gambling that takes place within the borders of Ontario.
Input From Stakeholders
One of the main goals that iGaming Ontario has set out to achieve is building a regulatory structure that incorporates the input it receives from stakeholders. For the sake of transparency, the stakeholders can keep up with any progress or developments by viewing the estimated timeline that has been placed on its website.
As the year progresses, the online Gambling Canada watchdog will release a draft of the commercial agreement it will have operators sign when they wish to open up their virtual doors. This draft will be readily available for review. Once viewed, the operators who are interested in offering online casino games in the province will then be able to submit their applications through AGCO’s online portal.
Online casino Canada operators that have been approved by AGCO can expect to sign their agreements with iGaming Ontario in the fall. All requisite IT systems that the online gambling programs will run on will be constructed and tested concurrently. Every concerned stakeholder, namely AGCO, iGaming Ontario and the operators, will be involved in this testing. iGaming Ontario expects to allow their first operators to officially offer their products from December of this year.
An iGaming Milestone
Ontario’s Attorney General Doug Downey has said that the establishment of this online Gambling Canada watchdog marks an important milestone in the province’s work to help ensure that players all have access to a safe, regulated online casino market by the end of the year.
Later this year, the regulator anticipates that it will be able to start issuing licenses to online gambling operators. All approved operators will need to have met rigorous standards of integrity, protections, fairness and social responsibility.
Players will be able to rest assured knowing that the online casino Canada sites they are playing at have been put through rigorous testing and will have to meet strict criteria, as set out by iGaming Ontario. To make sure that they are playing at approved sites, players will only need to look out for iGaming Ontario’s logo. This is how the regulator plans to help players self-identify the legitimate online casino sites.
