Poker Fans Can Now Own WPT NFT Heritage Content
Posted on April 12, 2021 at 12:04pm
World Poker Tour fans will soon get to own special WPT moments by logging into an NFT marketplace and buying limited-time packs containing unique content.
As part of the WPT’s premier launch of its own NFT marketplace, fans will get to bid on a 3 for 3 moment involving legendary Poker commentator and personality Mike Sexton. This special NFT-parcel will be sold off by the WPT via a live online auction. The auction will pay special tribute to Sexton, a beloved WPT commentator who passed away of cancer last September.
Other special WPT moments will also be up for grabs via the NTF marketplace, all with varying degrees of rarity and prominence. These will all be available on auction-day, and hopeful bidders will be happy to know that the sign-up and pre-registrations page is already live and available.
Big Moment For The WPT
According to a recent press release, WPT CEO Adam Pliska has described the marketplace launch as one of the biggest digital initiatives ever embarked on by the World Poker Tour brand. Pliska said the WPT brand is immensely looking forward to giving fans the opportunity to collect a historical piece of real-time World Poker Tour action.
The initiative will be powered by the Theta Network, which provides an eco-friendly ThetaDrop NFT marketplace that has been built and developed from the ground up specifically to meet the requirements of what the WTP is hoping to offer fans looking to own a piece of the action.
About The Tech
Since the technology used by the Theta Network is based on cryptocurrency technology, two-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner and WPT commentator Tony Dunst said he’s excited about the ongoing fusion between Poker and the cryptocurrency space. Dunst says he’s personally very excited about the prospect of getting his hands on some of the NFTs being launched across the WPT by the Theta Network.
NFT’s are the utilisation of blockchain technology at its very best. They’re presented to buyers in the form of virtual tokens representing a variety of different digital files. These digital files can take on a variety of forms – including video-material, audio clips, and various sorts of virtual art.
Exactly such a “tokenised” work of art was as recently as March this year off-loaded by digital artiest “Beeple” for a cool $69 million.
